Less than 24 hours after being let out from hospital, I set off with a group of eight other paddlers for a cruisy paddle up towards the bridge. It was my first ‘group trip’ that I was leading for the Tasmanian Sea Canoe Club.
It turned out to be a magical trip: It was a great group of beginners, many of them new and we ducked and played through the docks, were passed by a pod of around a dozen dolphins, three of which diverted over to check us out and say hello passing within touching distance of our boats, and then after landing we got to watch the main group of paddlers come in as the waves were lit up with bioluminescent algae.
It’s good, nah it’s great, to be alive.
