Launceston CBD Trails

Posted by

Launceston City Council publishes a brilliant  brochure titled “Trails in and around Launceston” which contains most of the legal trails around the city, and it’s a good basis for any cyclist looking for places to ride.

I’ve been meaning to go and check out some of these trails for ages, but they always fell to the bottom of my priority list … until today when I finished my George Town to Low Head Ride early enough to still squeeze in an hour and a halfs riding around Launceston.

I started in Invermay, and headed along the Inveresk Trail (Ride 21) to the Black Bridges Trail  (ride 20), which connects with the Henry Street Trail (19) and finally the North Esk Trail (Ride 18).  After a circuit up the top of this ride I retraced my steps back into the CBD and then followed the “Between Two Bridges” trail (ride 22) a loop around the River Edge Trail (5) then headed out along the University Trail (23) to Invermay and finally back to my car through Heritage Forest (Ride 24).

If I’d had a bit more time I would have also checked out the West Tamar Trail (Ride 6), but I’m glad I didn’t because just as I got back to my car who should I meet there but Santa …
Well Santa Pig anyway …

…which reminded me that I had presents to wrap before Kim and the kids turned up at my place at 3pm to put up the Christmas tree.  It was time for me to get home (and get some breakfast).
All in all, my two days up north were a none too shabby way to start to summer.
